Notes: Connoisseurs of Tangerine Dream live recordings are particularly well-served by the fan-curated Tangerine Tree and Tangerine Leaves projects (harvesting “very good” quality recordings, and “inferior” sounding shows respectively). Preserving 300 hours of secretly-recorded sound, the project was officially discontinued in 2006, but I should imagine all releases remain reasonably abundant on the net to this day. Of course, the lower quality “Leaves” are where it’s at. Ignore the scolding injunctions to preserve the superior FLAC format (yawn), my preferred listening quality is 128kbps mp3. Fuck the FLAC-Nazis. This gig, recorded at Munich’s Cirkus-Krone-Bau, is laughably described as being in “mediocre” sound quality by the fussy herberts at Tree/Leaf HQ. To be clear, I’d rather listen to a muggy AUD of Led Zeppelin “Ipswich ‘71” recorded from John Bonham’s sweaty arse-crack than a tarted-up Page soundboard from ‘77. By a pleasing symmetry, the project covers Tangerine Dream gigs from Essen 1968 - Essen 2005.
