NOTES: In 1984 RCA Video Productions released an edited version of the previous night’s Bottom Line show as the “A Night with Lou Reed” home video cassette. This bootleg on the NYC-based Black Cat label documents the early show from the following evening. All shows from the residency are highly recommended, regardless of sound quality.
REVIEW: Dean Benedetti was a saxophone player in awe of fellow saxophonist Charlie Parker. Listened to the discs and caught a few shows but that just wasn’t enough. Used heroin. Everyone in this story uses heroin. Benedetti started lugging along recording equipment to Parker’s residencies. An expensive pursuit, given the technology and lifestyle choices.
