This week I’ve been spending time with my favourite Communist, Junkie, Pederast, Anti-Fascist film director Eloy de la Iglesia. If you don’t know his work, you need to change that fast.
I’d previously only seen Murder In A Blue World (1973) on a chopped-up and muggy video cassette back in the day, so to savour Cauldron’s restored all-region Blu-ray “Producer’s Cut” is a pleasure indeed. No embarrassing dubbing (unless you opt in for it) and a generous selection of extras from the great and the good. Dr Xavier Aldana Reyes weighs in with exactly what you’d expect from someone employed by Manchester Metropolitan University and with a book from Palgrave. Reyes is a structuralist, everything serves the political narrative, and deviancy seems to only demonstrate the follies of totalitarianism. It’s a curiously sexless vision, castrated even.
