Buzzcocks took their name from a line of dialogue in a 1976 Brit TV drama Rock Follies. A Sodom and Gomorrah of a show chronicling the lives of up-for-it chicks in a rock and roll band. It was a smutty success and a second series was commissioned — Rock Follies ‘77. You can imagine the stylistic updates needed to bring the new show in line with the swiftly changing fashion and music scenes of 1976-77. And you had to. Because the second season was scuppered by industrial action and a whole six months passed between the broadcast of episodes three and four. And people wonder why Thatcher came to power. Rock Follies ‘77 limped to its conclusion, but we’d already forgotten what had happened, and besides, the tarts now looked dreadful and already past their sell-by date.
